The songo.info team attended the 3rd round of the WC BMX Winter Pump Track series hosted by the Zone 7 BMX Club and held at the Crosswinds Pump Track in Sunningdale, on Sunday, 3 August 2025. The series has proven very popular, and this event attracted a good number of entries, ranging from beginners to seasoned racers. songo.info had 14 riders on the entry list, including myself, my wife Nicole, as well as Songo graduate/Songo mechanic/all-round ripper on a bicycle, Zizo Tshingana. Fortunately, the weather was okay on the morning of the race so after we had fitted race numbers to all the bikes and had done a quick pre race chat the kids went straight to the track for official practice. At least 5 of the Songo kids we had entered had not raced a pump track event before so it took some time before they started feeling comfortable but it wasn’t long and they were all looking smooth and fast. Our monthly outings to the Specialized Bikes head office at Blaauwklippen to ride their pumptrack definitely helps.
Racing got under way at around 10am and by 12pm all riders had completed their two timed laps around the track. As seen at the first two rounds the times were extremely tight and one small mistake could cost you enough time to drop 5 or 10 places on the overall results. In the end the songo.info team had three riders in the top ten overall but more importantly it was a great learning experience for some of the younger kids and also a great day out riding a track which some of them have never been to. Most of the kids were also fortunate enough to win a lucky draw prize which was the icing on the cake!

The WC BMX Provincial points series will resume after the winter break with the first event taking place at Kraaifontein BMX track at the end of August. There will then be a few more Provincial races in September leading up to SA BMX champs taking place in JHB early October which the songo.info team will be attending.
A very big thank you to our sponsors Ninety One and Specialized Bikes. Without their continued support it would not be possible for us to attend these events.
