Education is the single most powerful tool to break the poverty cycle and provide kids with a brighter future. At Songo we create a personal and supportive learning environment as well as the resources to help kids with their studies. We ensure that every opportunity is given to the kids in our programme to complete their schooling to the best of their ability.

General School Support

Education is our core focus, making extensive use of digital learning as well as specialised tutors. The children are enrolled at a primary school level, and through our programme we provide educational support into high school and onto tertiary level studies. We cannot replace the formal education system, but we can do everything possible to ensure that children don't fall through the cracks.

Reading Eggs

English literacy is a critical skill. Reading Eggs is an online reading programme that helps children learn essential comprehension, vocabulary, spelling and grammar skills. Reading Eggs consists of hundreds of online reading lessons, phonics games and books for ages 2 to 13. Reading Eggs makes learning to read interesting and engaging for kids, with great online reading games and activities. Access to this invaluable resource is provided by the Click Foundation.

Tertiary Education Support

The support we provide children within the programme extends into young adulthood as we encourage those with the desire to further their learning to pursue tertiary education. We offer financial support and internship opportunities within the Songo supporters' community and the broader cycling industry where possible.

Digital Learning

Songo children have access to a computer centre for assignment research as well as accessing the CAPS curriculum content loaded onto the computers. In 2020, we added School in a Box, which is a tablet-based learning system, supporting children of all ages.
