Some of the songo.info team for race four of the Western Cape BMX series event, in Hermanus.
On Sunday, the 12th of March ,13 children accompanied by myself, Brad Stow, Ntlantla and Asabonga traveled to Hermanus BMX track to take part in the 4th leg of the Western Cape BMX provincial points series. songo.info was represented by the following riders: Likho Mayekiso, Onesimo Ndzonyana, Lakhanya Skhobongwane, Alunamida Mathafeni, Kanya Xhapha, Mihlali Stuurman, Juju Mbikahlobo, Uviwe Tshali, Awethu Mtekeli, Tsholofelo Letlola, Mihlali Nyembezi, Lilitha Mlenze and Luminathi Nkoko.
The top performer on the day was Mihlali Stuurman who very quietly and casually won all four of his races in a tough class which was very impressive.
songo.info kids topped a number of podiums on the day.
I feel that all the kids performed and behaved well and it was great to have Songo Tots, Juju and Alu, racing in the 5 years and under category. This was the first time they have raced outside of Kayamandi and they got first and second places respectively. Special mention must go to Tsholofelo for running around the track with them and then rushing back to the start gate for his race.
Lakhanya, Uviwe, Luminathi and Khanya all made it on to the podium in their respective classes.
Juju and Alu in action in the under 5 class.
I think we were better prepared for this event, compared to the race in Kraaifontein last month. It would have been better if the taxi had arrived in Hermanus earlier than they did so that the kids could have more time to practice before the race but I understand it is a long drive from Stellenbosch so not always possible.
All in all I feel it was a successful day for the Songo.info team.
A big thank you to our sponsors, Ninety One and Specialized Bicycles, who made this trip possible. Without their generosity and support this trip would not have been possible.
The kids always enjoy a good road trip to Hermanus.
