Bloemendal Wine Estate hosted the second leg of The Spur Schools MTB League this past weekend. It was pretty special to see so many participants and parents coming to support their kids at a bike race. With 907 riders it was the biggest ever turn out for a race in the series! Well done to Meurant Botha and his team for putting so much effort into the growth of the series. I remember one of the first Spur Schools MTB League events, we would be only 6 or 7 riders at the start of the junior category and it’s cool to now see more than 200 junior riders at the start.

We had 12 kids that took part at the event, 4 girls and 8 boys. For us this event was all about introducing more, younger, kids to XCO style racing and of course making sure that the kids are having fun too. It’s cool to see the boys going all in for positions but it’s even more special to see our girls enjoying racing against the other girls.

All the kids raced their hearts out and Amila ended up finishing 4th in the Sub-Junior Boys category, while Likho was 10th in the Sprog Boys division. On the way home it was great to hear all the stories and their excitement for the next event in two weeks’ time is already sky high.

Thanks again to Meurant and his team, songo.info supporters and our sponsors for the support. It wouldn’t be possible for the kids to take part in these events without all the aid we receive.

The next one is in two weeks’ time at Montana High School, Worcester! See you there.
