On Sunday the 26 May Brad Stow met the songo.info team at the clubhouse in Kayamandi. Myself and my partner Nicole arrived at about 6am and with the help of Ntlantla and Svig we started packing the bikes and getting the kids ready for the 1hr30 drive to Hermanus. The team we chose for this leg of the Western Cape Provincial BMX race was a combination of riders that I will be taking to the BMX National in KZN next month as well as a few kids who have not raced much before.
songo.info was represented by the following riders: Ovayo, Mihlali, Khanya, Luminathi, Akho, Awethu, Inam, Alunamida, and Uyathandwa.
We arrived in Hermanus nice and early which gives me time to register the kids and also allows the team to practice the track without feeling under time pressure.
After the riders briefing and the team ride by, racing started. The entry numbers were slightly lower than usual due to school exams but the racing was still fierce. The songo.info team had some great results with three of our kids finishing on the podium in their respective categories but the highlight of the day for me was the good behavior and the great sportsmanship the team showed. Medals are great but are not the ultimate goal for songo.info.
It was a great day for the team and we are now looking forward to the SA BMX Cup which will be taking place at Giba Gorge BMX track in KZN on the 22 and 23 June. Once again a big thank you to our sponsors Ninety One and Specialized Bicycles for their continued support. Without them none of this would have been possible.
