Cape Epic 2018: signed Men’s jersey

Jaroslav Kulhavý and Howard Grotts teamed up to win the 2018 Absa Cape Epic, providing Jaro with his third Epic victory. Their 2019 title defence was unfortunately derailed by Howie’s late withdrawal due to illness. They were united, once again, for the 2020 race, but Covid-19 ended that dream when the event was cancelled.

Jaro’s career has been characterised by extraordinary longevity. He won both the European and World Junior Championships in 2003, later adding a World Championship and an Olympic Gold Medal. Through his friendship with Burry Stander, and Epic-winning partnership with Christoph Sauser, he has a long association with Songo.info.

Howie is nine years younger than Jaro (birthdays just four days apart), with a career that is obviously shorter, and more focused on North American events. He has been the US XC champion, and has won the Leadville 100 MTB three times.
