Tiletoria Elgin MTB Race Report

01 Sep 2017

Race report by: Sipho Madolo, Sport Programme Manager

Last sunday we headed off to Paul Cluver in Grabouw with 9 of our older kids to take part in the Tiletoria Elgin MTB Race. It's always such a privilege to ride the awesome trails around Oak Valley and the weather was perfect for bike riding.

In the programme we split the kids into different groups and we have to make sure that all get the opportunity to race but this is dependant on them qualifying being judged on according to attendance, behavior and doing well at school!

This time was a chance for our older boys and girls to go and race. We had all of them doing 45km and after all the training the past few weeks it was good to see the improvement!

Beautiful day to ride

In addition to our older riders we also entered 2 of our younger boys also doing the 45km. Musa and Mzwandile, rode so well even though they admitted that was a really tough day out! Ntlantla was the star of the day as he finished in top 15 after starting in the last group and he was absolutely broken by the finish.

Aphiwe broke the hanger after 15km’s in and he changed the bike to single speed and finished the race. It’s good to always have plan B for everything. Next stop for this group will be FEDHEALTH MTB at Boschendal in 3 weeks time and it would be cool to see even more improvement and those happy faces again after the race!

Ready to race

Thanks to PPA events for the great opportunity for our kids, they had so much fun and we look forward to coming back again next year!
