The 2012 Old Mutual joBerg2C

16 May 2012

On our return from the Old Mutual joBerg2C last May, with all the many stories that were shared about our experiences on the race, the OM joBerg2C became a much talked about event at songo.info with the kids already from June 2011 rallying to get their chance to take part in this event. The big smiles that came back from all of us that were privileged to enough to take part in either joBerg2C or Sani2C gave just small insight into how amazing these events truly are with some of the most kick ass mountain biking trails out there!

Not only is this race exciting and compelling because of all the exceptional trails and incredible hospitality but also because it offers the kids the opportunity to travel on an airplane to Johannesburg and to see parts of South Africa they have never seen before. We try our best to give the most committed and deserving guys the opportunity to take part and this year Sandiso, Thando and Bongani were lucky enough to ride with Sandiso and Thando flying on a plane for the first time ever! Big time excitement is an understatement!

The race offers the opportunity to truly experience so many differing aspects of South Africa including the colourful countryside and microcultures that exist along the way. From boerewors and mielies in the Free State to donuts and banana's in Kwa-Zulu Natal. One thing that remains constant is the friendly faces and exceptionally helpful supporters along the way.

There are many experiences that are much talked about and generate a big smile when joBerg2C comes up with Day 4 riding along the escarpment probably being top of the list, the kick ass single trail down into the Umkomaas valley not far behind as well as the boat ride across the Vaal, the wicked floating bridges especially the one over the mighty Umkomaas also being up there. Not least is the chance to ride along some interesting wild animals in the game parks! It's one incredible experience from start to finish.

So 10 days post the event and still the stories are being shared in Kayamandi about the amazing experiences that were had on OM joBerg2C. We cannot begin to thank Wappo, Farmer Glen and Gary for providing us with the incredible opportunity to take part in this event. We are so exceptionally grateful.

There's already a huge buzz at songo regarding 2013 OM joBerg2C and the rumour mills are going wild with talk of our patron possible talking part next year - who knows maybe he even races with one of our kids! Now wouldn't that be an exciting experience?

Thank you Old Mutual joBerg2C. We look forward to seeing you in 2013!
