Support from the Absa Cape Epic Celebrity Teams

14 Feb 2012

Gugu Zulu, South African Rally Class Champion ('07, '09, '10) along with his girlfriend, Letshego Mosheu and several other sports celebrities will be teaming up to ride in the 2012 Absa Cape Epic. As part of their training and preparation for the event, they attended an Absa Cape Epic training camp this last weekend. We really enjoyed receiving this mail from Gugu and wanted to share this story with our supporters.

We can't wait for Gugu to come and visit our program and meet our children and young men so he can share his story of dreams and accomoplishments with them.

The email below was sent out yesterday to the Absa Cape Epic team, as well as Songo and myself....

Hi all

Angelique and Songo

This past weekend we attended the Absa Team Cape Epic Training Camp in CT.  The Training Camp was insightful re the route that the Absa Cape epic will follow and one learned a lot from the experience

During our four days in the mountains, Ernest and Jack ran a FINES system for anyone who defaulted.  A number of fines were awarded to a number of individuals from either falling of the bikes, making certain remarks and gestures or even those who got us lost in the wilderness whilst carrying a GPS device - it was all fun and games.  It was agreed that all monies collected through the FINES system would be sent through to a charity and i was fortunate enough to win the opportunity to choose which charity the funds would go to – I chose

Please expect some funds to be transferred to your account later this week – I am not entirely sure what the final amount will be, but we are working on a honesty system and trust that all will play their part.  Jack who is cc on this note may be able to shed some more light.

To the Absa Celebrity Team......

As a product of a Motorsport Development Program, I have been fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to chase up my dream of being a racing Driver in Motorsport. If it was not because of the funding and support i received in 1999 in the Vodacom Isondo Sport2000 Development Series, i would not be the SA National Rally Class Champion (‘07 ‘09 and ’10) that i am today and certainly would not be living my dream.  That said, provides kids from previously disadvantaged communities (Kayamande) the opportunity of a better life through sport – cycling in particular.

Run and spearheaded by Christoph Sauser (Absa Cape Epic 2011 Champion) and Songo Fipaza (Founder), is rather close to my  heart and hence it was a easy decision for me to choose their charity for our fines from the ABSA CAPE EPIC TRAINING CAMP.

For more info on the charity, please visit

Attached are some pics of me in action courtesy of a development programs that helped spearhead my racing career. Perhaps through your generous donations, we can help groom a young Burry Stander/ Christoph Sauser champion from the Townships.

Best Wishes Always,

Gugu Zulu
