STBB4GOOD MTB RACE REPORT

24 Oct 2017

Race report by: Sipho Madolo, Sport Programme Manager

This event has become one of the biggest MTB events in the Western Cape and it’s definitely a “must do” event on the MTB Calendar. It’s a very well organized event with awesome routes for all levels of racing. We have been taking part in this event every year and this year it was even more special as it was the final race of the year for our kids. Riding to the start

An easy warm-up spin to Overgaauw Wine Estate for the STBB4Good MTB Challenge.

We had 12 kids taking part in the event this year competing across the distances: 3 girls and 9 boys with 2 girls racing 12km, 2 boys racing 30km, 6 boys/girls racing 45km and 3 boys racing 60km. With such a spread, it was a bit busy morning for me making sure everyone had everything they needed and got to the start on time.

The weather was perfect for racing and the kids all rode very well and enjoyed the race which at the end of the day is the most important!

Our young girls racing in the 12km race had a fantastic time and raced their hearts out. They were super excited for their result finishing in 1st and 2nd place.

Girls podium 1st & 2nd.

In 30km one of our strongest boys, Bukho finish  2nd after starting in C bunch and Mzwandile also finished inside the top 20. In 45km and 60km the boys did so well and were very happy with their performance even though some had mechanicals but they all had the best day out.

With the final race in our race calendar now in the past, we turn our focus to the final exams followed by setting goals for the kids for 2018. Its been a really good year for our kids with good improvement both on and off the bikes and I look forward to seeing the momentum continue into 2018.

Thank you to STBB and the race organizers for the very well organized event and for the support we receive every year - we will definitely be back!
