Spur Schools League Mountain Biking Nationals

10 Oct 2012

On 21 September 6 songo boys traveled all the way to Johannesburg and into the majestic Magaliesberg where they took part in the Spur Schools League Mountain Biking Nationals. Thanks to Dirtopia who organised our transport from flights to bus rides, we arrived well on time at Bekker High School where the weekend's events were held.

As it was my first weekend away as a chaperone I was grateful for the well organised event hosted by Spur and Dirtopia who went to great lengths at planning the race weekend. Their sponsorship is a wonderful asset to schools cycling and encouraging the younger generation to take part in mountain biking. It is reassuring to know that they have committed to being the official sponsor for the next two years.

Our boys did very well considering the big turn out of riders. Luyanda Thobegunya who was the overall winner for the Western Cape came in at 6th and 8th on day one and two in the youth boys category and in the sub junior boys category Abongile Busakhwe came in at 16th and 10th position respectively. All in all the weekend was a wonderful success and the boys had a great experience competing at national level, tummies full of delicious spur burgers and chips!

Thank you to all who made this experience possible.
