a partnership for the future

Sports and education charity is proud to announce a three-year partnership with Investec Asset Management. The partnership will form part of Investec Asset Management’s corporate social investment (CSI) initiatives. 

The new deal allows’s dedicated team to focus on sustainability and growth: offering its successful and life-changing development program to more children in the township of Kayamandi, outside Stellenbosch. 

“When we first heard the story and the wonderful work they are doing in Kayamandi, we found fantastic alignment with Investec Asset Management,” says Thabo Khojane, Managing Director of Investec Asset Management. “We believe in helping those who are less privileged and providing them with an equal opportunity to succeed. We have a proud history of doing this not only in South Africa but across the globe. Investing for the future and spotting the winners of tomorrow is at the core of what we do. In Christoph Sauser, Songo Fipaza and the children of Kayamandi, we’ve found a group of winners with whom we want to be associated.”

“Having the trust of Thabo and Investec Asset Management is so important for,” says Christoph Sauser, co-founder of and multiple World Champion mountain biker. “We are a small and very personal charity, and we like to know what the needs are of every child so we can nourish them with sport and education and make them stronger. A strong partner like Investec Asset Management is like a tree with strong roots – the roots are essential in the long-run and will provide benefit for all the kids.” 

“We are honoured to have Investec Asset Management as a partner for It opens up a lot of doors for the community and the kids of Kayamandi,” says Songo Fipaza, co-founder of “Thabo and his colleagues can play an important role in influencing the kids, because many of them have had similar experiences to those of our kids. Being able to offer guidance and speak about careers and the future and overcoming challenges plays a huge part in motivating them. You never know, maybe in the future we’ll see one of the kids working there…” 

The partnership with Investec Asset Management includes headline sponsorship of’s Cape Epic mountain bike team. The 2015 team will be named Investec-songo-Specialized. Sauser, a four-time winner of the prestigious Cape Epic teams up with reigning Olympic mountain bike Champion, Czech rider Jaroslav Kulhavy to tackle the grueling eight-day event in March. Both are Marathon Mountain Bike World Champions and revel in the longer format of mountain bike racing.

Team Investec-songo-Specialized will undoubtedly be the pair to watch. The Swiss-Czech duo won the race when they last rode together in 2013. They dominated a quality field riding in honour of their fallen teammate and fellow trustee, South African Burry Stander. Stander tragically died in a vehicle accident while out training in January 2013.

Investec Asset Management will join long-time supporters of the charity, Meerendal Wine Estate and Julius Bär in striving to improve the lives of the children in Kayamandi through sport and education opportunities. 

MORE ABOUT SONGO.INFO is an educational support and sports development initiative created by Christoph Sauser, Swiss multiple World Champion mountain biker and Absa Cape Epic winner and Songo Fipaza, community leader and great athlete from Kayamandi township, near Stellenbosch, South Africa. The initiative was launched at the 2008 Cape Epic multi-stage endurance race, held in South Africa’s Western Cape province. strives to improve the lives of the children in Kayamandi through sporting opportunities. The development programme focuses on academic support, running and bike riding; including BMX, mountain biking and road cycling; as well as participation in duathlon.

The Absa Cape Epic is an eight-day mountain bike stage race held annually in South Africa’s Western Cape region. The race must be completed by both members of a two-person team. The route changes every year, leading aspiring amateur and professional mountain bikers from around the world through roughly 800km of unspoilt scenery and 15 000m of accumulated climbing, over some of the most magnificent mountain passes in South Africa. The Absa Cape Epic is the most televised mountain bike stage race in the world and the only eight-day mountain bike stage race classed as hors catégorie by the Union Cycliste Interacionale (UCI). This official UCI status makes it a highlight on the professional racer's calendar. The Absa Cape Epic also attracts aspiring amateur riders wanting to test themselves against the best. It is a full-service race, meaning that everything is taken care of from the start - all riders need to think about is riding.
