Race report by: Sipho Madolo - Sport Programme Manager.

This past weekend we had 5 kids taking part at the #3 WP XCO Cup at the Slanghoek Mountain Resort near Rawsonville. The course suited most of our kids so I knew they were in for a good day.

We went through to practice the course on Saturday to ensure that everyone new what to expect on the day. The practice really helped the kids to get comfortable with the course (except the rock garden). We had 2 riders competing U12, 2 in  sub-juniors and 1 competing in the Junior category.

 Waiting for the start

Lakhanya on the left and Amila on the right, just before the start on Sunday.

Our two U12 riders had a very good race with Amila finishing 12th and Lakhanya 14th in their age category. There is such a big improvement from the 2nd round of the WP XCO Cup in Paarl. They made one or two mistakes out on course but that's part of the journey - to have fun, make mistakes, learn and race their hearts out.

Our two girls Asabonga and Milani did really well especially Asabonga who finished 6th in the youth women race. Milani had a crash on the first lap and hurt herself a bit so she had to stop. This is a good start for them and we looking forward to have more young girls taking part in xco races.

Bukho on his last lap at the 3rd WP XCO Cup at the Slanghoek Mountain Resort.

Bukho had a really promising race, unfortunately he had a few mechanical problems but it was so cool to watch him going all out from the start. He still have a lot to learn but this was a promising start to the year. “The course was suiting me and I was feeling good, unfortunately dropping my chain the whole time made me lose a lot of positions but I enjoyed the race and I want to do better next time”, Bukho said about his race.

It's good to see the continual improvement and the racing spirit of the kids. Thanks to the race organisers for organising a fantastic day of racing and making it possible for our kids to compete - we are really looking forward to the next one!
