July Holiday Report

01 Aug 2018

by Sipho Madolo

The school holidays give us the opportunity to spend more time with the kids and build on the individual relationships. The school holiday programme is designed to include some activities that encourage the kids to spend time outside of their comfort zones to enhance their confidence and self-esteem.

The July holiday programme consisted of 3 weeks, which involved various activities such as riding, hiking, track maintenance, road safety, lifeskills and team building activities. We made the best of sunny winter days and took the kids to G-land, which they absolutely loved!! It was great to see how much the kid’s technical skills improved while there, hitting all the jumps and even the younger ones trying some jumping.

We like to mix up the activities so that the kids remain interested and learn new things. One such activity was, a visit to the ECO Centre for road safety, where the they took part in activities focused on road safety awareness. They also enjoyed having the opportunity to explore nature whilst hiking around the beautiful Stellenbosch. This was great for the kids as they got to experience the outdoors on an interactive level and talk more to the outdoor experience.

The holiday programme was restructured to ensure the kids had fun but also weren’t overwhelmed by a busy schedule of activities. The introduction of ‘down-time’ gave them a chance to have their own free time during the holidays where no activities where planned. The ‘down-time’ allowed the kids to interact with each other and the team in a more casual environment. There were soccer tournaments held and movie days, where great friendships were formed during this time.

It was a successful holiday programme and not only did the kids enjoy themselves but so did we. We loved spending so much time with them. Thank you to everyone that was involved in our July holiday programme. Now it is time to get back to business with lots of racing coming up and the new term of school.
