Good Wine, Special Friends - One Memorable Evening

29 Nov 2012

On Tuesday 13 November 2012 we held our annual Auction Charity Event. Thanks to the generosity of Zee Ismail, Room Manager at the Breakwater Lodge, Protea Hotel next to the beautiful V&A Waterfront we were able to up our game by using their great facilities.

This year the auction was inspired by the multitude of talented mountain biking photographers we have in South Africa, filling our media with their breathtaking images. Michal Ceveny, Nick Muizik, Greg Beadle, Karin Shermbrucker, Sven Martin, Gary Perkins and Chris Hitchcock were approached for pictures featuring Christoph Sauser and Burry Stunder, ABSA Cape Epic memories or just outright must-have biking images. We were blown away with the amount of exceptional photographs given to us and in the end tough choices had to be made to get it down to 12 pictures for our auction which were then printed and Framed by Orms in Diasect Perspex.

Three Wineries were invited to do wine tasting at the event, namely Alluvia, Raats and Meerendal who also kindly sponsored 36 bottles for the rest of the evening. Hazz also came to the party with their delicious coffee for everyone to enjoy and hunger cravings were satisfied with tray after tray of mouth-watering canape's prepared by the Breakwater Lodge, Protea Hotel.

By 6:30pm most of the guests had arrived, filling the room with a bustling crowd, sipping on wine while viewing the pictures soon to be auctioned off.  The excited crowd was then ushered passed a room filled with the songo.infokids artwork as well as a clip explaining the charity, then through to a hall where the long-awaited screening of "Where the Trail Ends" by Redbull and Specialized was watched. The movie was sensational as big gasps rose from the crowd every time a thrilling stunt was undertaken.

Paul Valstar was master of ceremonies for the night and interviewed our celebrities including the Olympic hold medalist, James Thompson.  The auction was a great success thanks to true songo.info supporters and two lucky guests left with an exquisite Maurice Lacroix watch and Christoph and Burry signed photograph of the 2012 ABSA Cape Epic by photographer Chris Hitchcock which were both raffle prizes. A total of R52 000 was raised through the auction followed by an additional R15 000 through lucky draw tickets and entries.

A big thank you to all our sponsors and everyone who contributed to make the night possible: Breakwater Lodge Protea Hotel, Meerendal, Alluvia, Raats, Specialized and Maurice Lacroix
