Contego Wines2Whales Mountain Bike Race Presented by Maserati

12 Nov 2012

The songo.info team once again enjoyed a fantastic time at the 2012 Contego Wines2Whales Mountain Bike Race presented by Maserati. The 3 days of mountain bike riding on this race is a special time for the songo team as we get the opportunity to come together at the end of the year and enjoy fun riding with our supporters and and those that pay top dollar to ride with our celebs! We are extermely grateful to Michael Meyer and the team from Stillwater Sport and Entertainment who provided us with this fantastic opportunity.

The weekend was thoroughly enjoyed by the entire team as we spent quality time on the trails and together, enjoyed meals, relaxing time and a little wine time!

This year we had a special addition to the Ride with a Celebrity Team as the South African Rally Car Champion, Gugu Zulu and his distinguished partner, Survivor Maldives runner-up, Letshego Moshoeu, joined the songo.info team. Gugu partnered with our young and spritely Elton Pomer, who was super excited to spend the weekend with his role model and hero Gugu Zulu. Letshego was in trusted hands riding with the very experienced Songo Fipaza.

This year the weather played along with us and offered the most spectacular scenery through the landscapes in Somerset West, Grabouw and through the Houw Hoek Valley to Onrus beach.

A few last minute changes to our Ride with a Celeb Team resulted in Christoph Sauser and Burry Stander teaming up for the Contego Wines2Whales, where the last time they rode together was the 2012 Absa Cape Epic. This time of year is off season for the two of them so the riding was more of fun time in the trails together. Trevor McLean Anderson rode instead with his friend Andre Hoekstra, and Dan Hugo teamed up with Sivuyile Kepelele, as a generous donor paid for the two to ride together. We can safely say Svig had the ride of his life, working hard to stay hot on the heels of our Dan Hugo. They had an amazing result, finishing top 50 overall.

Oli Munnik and Michael Creedon teamed up for the 2nd year in a row. Michael had been training hard for this year's event and was a little dissappointed to encounter so many punctures on Day 1. Luckily Day 2 and 3 went a lot more smoothly as the 2 cruised through the Contego Wines2Whales course.

Thank you again to the incredible hospitality from the team at Stillwater Sports and Entertainment. It is great to see how the Contego Wines2Whales goes from strength to strength.

We look forward to seeing you all again at the race next year.
