After weeks of serious training after the Cape Epic, I was invited to participate in the 2 day Arabella MTB stage race. Even though I knew I wouldn't be even close to my best I wanted to race as hard as I could. I participated in the race with Azukile and 3 boys from the program (Baphelele, Ntando and Aphiwe). It was the first time for Ntando and Aphiwe to ride in a stage race, as well as travelling outsideof the Stellenbosch and kayamandi area for few days. It was such a great experience for all of us, but especially for them!

We stayed at 'Our Nest Guest House', which is situated 15km away from the race, however we  drove to the starting point everyday.

Arabella 1On the first stage I got a puncture after 30-40mins into the race. However, I tried to fight back but the race was really short. I couldn't get back to the front of the race so i finished just out side the top ten. Azu and the boys had the best stage. Azu unfortunately just missed being part of the top ten due to a brake failure in the last few kms.

Ntando commented on day 1 of the stage " the race was hard with lots of climbing and challenging down hills, but I am happy I finally finished today"

Day 2 was a really hard but fun day. It had a mix of everything including more trails. I was feeling really good, but my legs took time to get warm. I ended up being a part of the chasing group, where I landed up putting in a lot of work trying to help move the group forward. However, I am happy with how everything went on day 2. Considering this was the first stage race for Aphiwe and Ntando they rode especially well. Arabella 2

On our way home from the race we decided to make a quick stop at the beach, because Ntando and Aphiwe had never been to the beach before. We all really enjoyed ourselves.

I definitely believe it was one of the most successful race weekends we have had taken part in,  except my own performance!

Thanks a million to @stillwatersport @cellc for making this possible for us and also big shout out for all the support from @specializedza @biogensa @supacaz
