Boom, a rocking day! Stage 3: Robertson to Greyton

26 Mar 2014

Franti & Susi went out hard today & with the great support of Team RECM & Specialized’s Ben Bostrum & Paolo Montoya were able to claw back the minutes lost through a variety of mechanicals experienced the previous 2 days to place them firmly on the top podium position and within a mere few seconds off the Bulls and approx. 9 mins off Topeak-Ergon Racing.

 Podium

A well deserved top position on the podium. You guys rock!

While Susi now has an impressive 31 podium wins, huge congrats and credit needs to go to Franti for his first top Absa Cape Epic podium position. It is truly unbelievable that only 4 months ago the wheels were set in motion that he would switch from a rd career to that of MTB in order to partner with Susi to defend the title of Absa Cape Epic.

 Wind

As a great tweet said: Never underestimate abilities of roadies, or @sauserwind wisdom.” Not only is Franti proving that he deserves the respect and acceptance of the mountain biking community but he has very quickly endeared himself to the songo community with his warmth, enthusiasm, the way that he whole heartedly embraced and supports us.

Sipho & Azu had another spectacular day as they continued to dominate the Exxaro Jersey category – the amazing support that we have received for them has been spectacular and they greatly appreciate it. Huge thanks to Fanie and Harry from Specialized Racing Team for the unbelievable support you give the guys!

Day 4 in the Exarro Jersey for Sipho & Azu.

As always, a teams destiny can change in a heartbeat at the Absa Cape Epic so you better enjoy the journey – if anything is to be said for the vibe at the Meerendal-songo- Specialized racing team & RECM’s camp – the team is living and loving the journey. They have all been around the block a few times – have a great wealth of knowledge and experience but most importantly they have a love for what they do.

See you tomorrow – Stage 4 is no doubt going to be an eventful one!

Oh – one note before signing off, we were given the best picture today – proving that not only is Christoph Sauser a top mountain biker but a keen conservationist. See the picture below – where he takes the time out from racing to advise the marshal of the unsuspecting tortoise in the path of oncoming danger.

 Look a tortoise!
