Today was the very first prologue in the ABSA Cape Epic’s history! It allowed spectators to see teams race against the clock around a fast 17km circuit with a total of 301m elevation gain. The course was described after by the riders as very loose with loads of rocky sections. The incentives for riders racing the first 17km of 966km to come, is a good seeding position in the start chute for stage 1 (tomorrow).

The songo.info boys did really well and there was some exciting racing to watch, with the top teams going out really hard. The songo.info team of Christpoh Sauser and Burry Stander finished 4th, in a time of  32.30min, 1.26min down to Team MTN/Raleigh.

“Todays ride went pretty well. Susi and I rode conservatively yet found ourselves up there towards the front” said Burry afterwards. Christoph’s commented: “I was telling a journalist that the best partner for the Epic is 1% weaker then yourself, and lots of fun to be with…today I was more than 1%… weaker then my partner Burry!”

The top three results for the day:

Kevin Evans and David George (31:04)

Roel Paulissen and Jakob Fuglsang (32:01)

Karl Platt and Stefan Sahm (32:21)
