About Us

Songo Kids

songo.info is a social development programme based in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch which uses sport and education to provide opportunities for children to play, grow and learn, while instilling the necessary life skills needed for a brighter future.

Our History

Christoph Sauser & Songo Fipaza

songo.info started with a chance meeting between Christoph Sauser (World Champion mountain biker) and Songo Fipaza (a Kayamandi community leader). The pair put their heads (and hearts) together to create a powerful collaboration, which has had a profound impact on vulnerable youth in the area for more than 10 years.

Our Home

Kayamandi, Cape Town

Our home is Kayamandi, one of the oldest townships in the Western Cape, located on the outskirts of Stellenbosch. It is a vibrant community of predominantly Xhosa-speakers. South Africa's Apartheid government policies have left the community with poor housing, education and infrastructure and, as a result, limited economic opportunities.

Celebrating a decade of building
brighter futures.

Songo has humble beginnings: from a dream of providing a safe space for children to play on bikes, it has evolved into an Education support and Sport programme focussed on creating a long-term positive impact on the children of Kayamandi, Stellenbosch.

Sport

Cycling is the foundation of the songo.info programme. The camaraderie, freedom and joy that a bike represents is a huge attraction for the children we serve. Through sport kids develop important life skills, such as team work, discipline and perseverance. The physical and mental health benefits of structured play are also key drivers of the programme.

Education

songo.info's Education programme provides our children with personalised schooling support and learning resources to help with their studies within an environment that is conducive to learning.

Life Skills

Not everything worth knowing can be taught at school. We focus on life skills to help our children become well-rounded individuals with the ability to make a better life for themselves beyond school.
