Goal

Together, Erica Green and Songo Fipaza envisioned and pioneered their dream of building a BMX track in Kayamandi. Erica comes from a mountain-biking background and has been to the Olympics to represent South Africa. Songo grew up in Kayamandi and is dedicated to uplifting and inspiring the underprivileged youth who live their and endure many hardships daily.

Their idea is to keep the Kayamandi kids off the streets and out of a drug and crime environment by exposing them to sport within a safe and positive setting. A typical track is short and fast, the bikes are small, compact, tough and low maintenance. A track would provide a means of developing much needed skills, fitness, conditioning, confidence and sportsmanship. Not only is it a platform to launch riders into the different areas of cycling such a road and mountain biking, it is also a area for recreation and creativity as typically South African wire-cars and speedy-wheel-creations can be tested and enjoyed on the track.

A few kids in Kayamandi own bicycles. Sadly there is no safe area for them to cycle or play. An exciting BMX track would allow the kids of Kayamandi to escape from the harsh realities they are forced to face on a daily
