i think the moment a kid learns to ride a bike is a seminal moment in ones life as it is then that you experience true independence for the first time and you really do begin lifes journey. i think it was  H.G. Wells that said

“something along the lines of: every time i see someone on bicycle i do not despair for the future of the human race”
